The Butte County Sheriff's Department is a law enforcement agency that provides Butte County, Nebraska. The office is located at Niobrara Avenue, Alliance, Nebraska. The department provides 24-hour protection and service in all areas of our county.  The Sheriff's office has over 40 members dedicated to serving the public with pride and respect. It was established in 1895 and had been providing service to the county for 108 years. The department is headed by Sheriff Alan J. Dunlap, who was elected in 2008 with a term of office ending January 2020. Sheriff's Deputies are assigned within the Butte County Territory, which includes 14 cities and townships covering square miles. The staff comprises five full-time sworn officers, 22 full-time civilians, and three part-time sworn officers. During the day, the office is staffed with at least one sworn officer and civilian. Generally, the Sheriff's Office provides a wide variety of law enforcement services to the county, including Patrol Services, Criminal Investigations, Civil Processes (including evictions), Court Security, Jail Operations, and Administration.

Roles of the Sheriff's department

The Sheriffs Office also offers Specialized Enforcement Units such as K-911 Unit, Warrants and Felony Warrant Services, Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (D.A.R.E.), Crime Prevention Programs and a new community-oriented policing program called "The Neighborhood Network." The Sheriff's Office is also committed to protecting the community from fraud and identity theft through the Identity Theft Program. They provide a variety of services for members of the public, including Online reporting, in-person reporting (Monday - Friday), telephone assistance, perpetrator registration site & notification, victim service coordinators.

The environment will offer them the chance they deserve to get better while being away from the drugs, alcohol, or other temptations that may have led them to crime in the first place. Box Butte Jail is an excellent place for someone looking to start over and work on their life. It's not easy, but it can be done with the right motivation from those around you. Inmates have been known to leave after just three months in this facility ready to tackle anything that comes their way again because they've learned so much.

They are also very helpful and know how to best work with people with addiction problems or mental health issues without offering them any distractions. The jail maintains inmate records and keeps everything in order, which is so helpful when they are released and need to get on their feet again. Box Butte Jail is under the supervision of Butte County Nebraska Sheriff, Tammy Mowry who makes sure the jail is well run.
