NSA Programs
· Fundraising Initiative
Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association is dedicated to saving lives and educating the youth about the body’s inability to function normally under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The Association achieves this by operating the Fatal Vision goggles program available to Nebraska Communities and law enforcement agencies. Fatal Vision program focuses on giving young people the experience of being impaired without consuming alcohol or any other illegal substance. The program’s expertise starts with impairment discussions and the probable consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
Individuals participating in this initiative wear Fatal Vision Goggles, which accurately stimulate at least 0.8 intoxications; Nebraska considers an individual with this blood alcohol level legally drunk. Therefore, individuals wearing these glasses find it challenging to walk a straight line, stand on one leg, catch a ball, or touch their noses, among other effects.
Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association invites all schools and citizens to arrange to have the Fatal Vision program offered locally, either through DARE or GREAT classes or at community events where youths can participate. Fatal Vision is an hour-long training initiative.
To schedule a community presentation, you can contact the Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association in Lincoln at (402) 434 3785.
· Continuing Education for Nebraska Sheriffs
As mandated by the Nebraska statute, Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association offers twenty hours for all sheriffs interested in continuing education annually. The Association provides a lobby group that represents the interest of law enforcement in the legislature, alongside being a reference source for legal questions.
NSA is responsible for keeping the members updated with all data concerning new legislation and technological advances in law enforcement in Nebraska.
· Technology and Information
Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association partners with all law enforcement agencies in enhancing technology and furnishing all vital information; in addition, NSA continuously provides the highest protection quality to all residents of the State of Nebraska.
· Husker Harvest Days
NSA hosts and participates in Husker Harvest Days annually; Husker Harvest Day events provide an avenue where locals and sheriffs can meet, receive information and enjoy fun giveaways.
· Sheriff Handbook
To receive the current Sheriff Handbook, the Association advises citizens to contact the NSA office for an electronic copy.
· Sponsor of Special Olympics
NSA, Bronze Sponsor, proudly sponsors the Special Olympics and the Nebraska State Games every year. Additionally, sheriffs and other members of the NSA participate in the yearly Nebraska Torch Run.
· NSA Gun Raffle
You can obtain tickets from the Nebraska Sheriff’s Association’s office; one access is equivalent to $50, and 52 guns are drawn for $0.96 for each drawing. 100% of the raffle proceeds go to NSA. All Gun Raffle participants must be at least 18 years and are subject to an ATF background check. Each raffle ticket is included in all 52 drawings; therefore, you can win several guns with one ticket; keep in mind NSA notifies all winners in December.
With that in mind, after notification, NSA requires winners to claim their prizes within 30 days; all unclaimed prizes become the property of the Nebraska Sheriffs’ Department.
Winners pick their prizes using the Redemption Certificate issued by the Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association or shipped to a local FFL. Furthermore, winners can pick them at Scheels, 2960 Pine Lake Rd Suite B Lincoln, Ne 68516 402-420-9000.
NSA reserves all the rights to make substitutions based on availability factors.

Nebraska Corrections
Sheriff Departments manage and operate all Nebraska county jails. Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff Department, operates Douglas County Jail considered the largest prison in Nebraska. County Sheriffs, alongside deputies, correction officers, and support staff, indulge in criminal investigations, civil processes, jail operations, traffic operations, and other duties. The Sheriff’s offices partner and work closely with local, state, federal, and other emergency services agencies to provide a safe and secure environment for the public and incarcerated individuals. Additionally, these partnerships allow corrections personnel to respond in time with the necessary resources in security emergencies or crises.
Nebraska correction services are committed to protecting and serving individuals within designated jurisdictions, including Nebraska residents and those traveling through the various counties.
All county jails are dedicated to providing safety through legal, secure, and compassionate offender detention. Jails achieve this by recruiting and developing certified and professional staff members who offer rehabilitative programs and reduce recidivism rates.
Programs and Services
Through the Sheriff’s offices, Nebraska county jails offer reentry programs and services designed to ensure the successful reintegration of incarcerated individuals into their families and communities.
Here are some of those programs:
- Education Programs: County jails offer academic programs for incarcerated individuals depending on where they left off before incarceration. Education programs assist in improving educational and cognizance levels and at the same time increasing employability chances upon release. Incarcerated individuals can enroll in General Education Diploma (GED) and attain a high school diploma equivalency, Adult Basic Education for inmates with lower than a sixth-grade education, and parenting classes to assist inmates in bonding with their children. Additionally, county jails offer individual tutoring, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and basic computer classes.
- Vocational Training: Vocational classes are vital for assisting inmates gain skills necessary for productivity during incarceration and employment opportunities after completing their sentences. Some county jails partner with local colleges and universities to provide vocational courses and offer certificates or degrees to successful inmate students. All prisons offer basic vocational skills, including plumbing, custodial maintenance, Furniture, Barbering, Janitorial duties, Kitchen, Electronics, and Sanitation.
- Religious Programs: Chaplains often work with volunteers and community organizations to provide religious services to incarcerated individuals. Most jails offer standard religious programs to inmates of recognized faiths (at least four traditional sects; Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim). These programs include worship services, special religious events, Bible Study, religion-based substance abuse counseling, and life skills, among other volunteer services.
- Substance Abuse Treatment: More than 80% of offenders booked to the jails present substance abuse-related disorders; therefore, county jails ensure to conduct a drug screening on inmates upon booking to the individual facilities. Certified and licensed clinicians and psychologists offer quality treatment and counseling, respectively. Treatment is designed to address the underlying factors that prompted drug and alcohol dependencies to avoid relapses. These programs consist of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, In-depth drug and alcohol relapse prevention groups, and drug prevention self-help groups.
- Anger Management Program: Inmates with violent crime histories enroll in anger management and cognitive and behavioral groups; these programs target violence prevention, self-control, and problem-solving skills.
Criminal Investigations
Investigators in all Sheriff Offices are trained in different areas to handle various correctional services at the office. They are mainly responsible for conducting investigations on reported crime or any suspected criminal activities within designated counties. Additionally, Investigators process more significant crimes by obtaining and verifying evidence through observing and interviewing suspects and witnesses or analyzing records.
They are also responsible for investigating Sex crimes, Homicides, Felony Thefts, Robberies, Burglaries, Frauds, and Scams.
Inmate Lookup
Searching for incarcerated individuals in Nebraska county jails is easy and efficient as you only have to visit individual jail websites. Offender search is a public service offered by all the county jails for access to general information. All databases do not contain records regarding juvenile offenders and administrative offenders from the Department of Homeland Security Immigration Customs Enforcement. Ensure to provide correct details on the inmate’s full name, age, gender, race, Date of Birth, and Jail ID Number.
Alternatively, several authorized offender locator websites are available online; these sites require you to fill out the inmate’s full name and State held.
